Tristan Brown is an illustrator based in Chicago Illinois. He has a passion for creating scenes full of action and rich characters. Using the languages of Sci-fi and dark fantasy to create dynamic illustrations that give snapshots into rich worlds. He is heavily interested in the artistic motifs of Japanese animation and video games, intertwining these two worlds with a painterly style.
Tristan primarily uses digital illustration programs such as Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint to bring his figures and settings to life. When creating his pieces the characters are essential. To start the character creation process he fuses tropes from preexisting media. Using this fusion to create a personality that he is interested in. From this base of a character he then writes a short paragraph or two about their motivations and backstory. From this he begins to worldbuild, constructing a setting that would inform said character’s purpose and goals. Finally he begins to illustrate using the characters backstory and world to determine their costume and overall aesthetic.
Currently Tristan is creating a series of works titled Blood of Unity. These works take place in a cyberpunk society where lovecraftian gods exist and their pawns oppress humans. The story of Blood of Unity is an allegory to class consciousness, as alongside humans a hybrid race exists that are derivatives of the gods influence. There is heavy discrimination against this hybrid race however, the main figure of the piece Cobalt leads a rebellion against the ruling figures that plague his world. Combining forces with humans and hybrids to topple the powers at work.
